Dive into Hyrox vs CrossFit

This month we’re talking Hyrox vs CF, the importance of recovery and we’re introducing a brand new CF coach! We're also launching a class dedicated to preparing you for the competition of the summer, BOTE. Keep reading to find out more...

Welcome to the team…

Get to know our new CF coach, Paolo:

I’ve been in sports since I was 3 years old and played for Guatemala’s baseball national team from the age of 15. I’ve also competed at a competitive level in triathlon, track and field, handball and CrossFit. I love to do extreme activities or try new things, things that I can challenge myself with!

I became a CF coach because it’s amazing to have the opportunity to leave something positive in someone’s life. To see how they achieve their goals and to be that character in their lives helping them to become the fittest and best version of themselves. I love to motivate people to live a healthy overall lifestyle!

Favorite CrossFit workout: Fran
Loves: Dogs, burgers, Italian food, steak, writing and Latin dance (bachata)
Hates: Truffle and garlic

Hyrox vs CrossFit

Hyrox vs CrossFit

It’s been all the rage recently so, we thought why not highlight the differences between Hyrox vs CrossFit.

Thanks to a study conducted by WODScience here are the facts on why we can classify Hyrox and CrossFit as different sports.

Let start with the obvious differences:

CrossFit requires a higher power output during a shorter period of time whereas Hyrox requires a much lower power output during a longer time period. The moves in Hyrox (wallballs, rowing, broad jumps, lunges) typically favour taller athletes while CrossFit favours a more varied athlete – muscular but can be short or tall.

With regard to nutrition, Hyrox athletes are better off consuming higher carbs diets to maximise energy availability during an event since it is a longer duration. In comparison, CrossFit’s high intensity, shorter workouts call for carb intake around sessions.

T-7 days until the CrossFit Games

In just seven day’s time the world’s most elite athletes will gather in Fort Worth, Texas for the 18th CrossFit Games. This year we’re rooting for Dubai raised Keanu Zaharna who will be competing in the 14-15 age group category.

We remember Keanu years ago practicing his gymnastics skill work on the astro turf in Springs Souk. He has been chasing his dream to the Games since the tender of age of 11, a true testament that hard work pays off.

We caught up with Keanu pre competition to reflect on his CF journey so far and to see if he had any words of advice for young aspiring CF athletes… "I started CrossFit at around 11 years old. In some ways it feels like a long time ago but I remember training at Springs Souk like it was yesterday. Great memories learning the skills there, it's also where I met a lot of people who continue to be apart of my journey.  One piece of advice I'd give to young athletes is to listen to your body when it comes to training and not to overdo it"

You can catch all the action of finding the Fittest on Earth on ESPN or Games.CrossFit.com, Facebook, Twitch, and YouTube.

How seriously do you take your recovery?

Rest days are equally as important as training days. They are necessary to allow the body to repair so you can come back to training even stronger. So, while planning your training week, don’t forget to implement recovery days.

On rest days we recommend opting for a mobility session, a sports massage, sauna, ice bath or low intensity movement. Ask reception for more details on recovery at Warehouse and head to your app to check out when our mobility sessions are across different WH locations are.
